Kyle is passionate about working with people who struggle with mental health and addiction issues, in particular through the lens of understanding and treating the various complex dynamics that can help both individuals and their families find new, intentional and meaningful qualities of life. Since 2011, Kyle has worked with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders and views people as capable to gain awareness of previous and current patterns of dysfunction to promote both their short-term and long-term healthier lifestyle. Kyle engages people in educational and experiential interactions to foster rapport, build an understanding of the nature of the struggles with intrapersonal and interpersonal issues, and develop skills to work through adverse issues instead of against them. Kyle’s formal education has derived from the fields of psychology and marriage and family therapy, and he applies concepts and skills from these fields in the work of addiction and mental health, in particular the concern for developing healthy relationships for the self and all-encompassing relationships.
Kyle is an ambivert. He enjoys spending time with people one-on-one, in crowds of hundreds, or alone. He loves the outdoors and the wilderness, but since he grew up in southern California, he finds the most healing and beautiful place in the world to be the beach. Kyle loves to travel and live abroad, so far including the Dominican Republic, Italy, France, Switzerland, and Mexico. He also is fluent in Spanish and prefers Latin food and music. Kyle loves concerts, social gatherings, and mindfulness retreats and he also loves to play and spend time with his family, including his wife and three children.
HOPE, HEALTH & HEALING
Kyle believes in viewing hope, health, and healing through a systemic lens. Rather than viewing health concerns through a standard lens of linear underpinning, such as cause and effect, he views people and life through the lens of relationships. For example, he takes into consideration how the interaction of various factors tend to show constructive or destructive patterns of lifestyle, including particular and personal dynamics related to a single person, as well as the potential dynamics from the various environments in which the person has learned to engage and respond to life, such as the intergenerational family dynamics and biological factors. Therefore, Kyle believes that hope, health, and healing are about observing, understanding, and potentially changing the way a person relates to their self and their world around them, and not just the idea of focusing on changing behavior alone, which tends to be just short-term and actually often perpetuates the historical struggles that a person might have.
